bald

Wayne shaved his mustache and goatee.
I have never seen him without the 'stache, and he only briefly was without the goatee since I've known him.

He has been threatening to shave his facial hair since 2003, when we were on our honeymoon. Snorkeling was difficult for him because he couldn't get a good seal between his face and the mask d/t his facial hair. I cannot even count how many times he has talked about it and never acted upon it.

Until today.

When I was downstairs playing on the computer, he called down to me, so I looked up and saw his BALD UPPER LIP. Omg. Totally wasn't expecting that. He still had the goatee, though, which made him look leprechaunish (his facial hair is red).

I probably reacted inappropriately. In fact, I know I did. Recoiling is likely inappropriate.

Then he shaved the goatee, and I couldn't look.

I finally peeked through my fingers trying to get used to this person who claimed to be my husband.

Paige came home to get some homework she forgot, and I called down to her: "Paige come up here and meet your new stepdad!" she, too, recoiled and said, "you're growing that back, right? You don't look like you. I wouldn't even recognize you." and so on.

I sent a picture to Brittani's phone, and her response: "Ew. i don't like it." I thought that was little harsh-- the "ew" part anyway. Ew is like gross, and he doesn't look gross, he just looks...white bread. It didn't help that he was wearing his work clothes. Maybe it'll work better in his everyday clothes.

My prediction on Maya's reaction is that she will cry.

misc.

Wayne and I went to see Shawn Mullins last week. He was at The Triple Door, and I realized when we were sitting there waiting for the concert to start that we have moved into another demographic. Long gone are the days of getting to the front of the crowd, smashed up against the barrier, moshing and crowd surfing. Yes, I did all that, at one time.

Now I prefer sitting in a comfortable seat while sipping a drink (mojitos made with rum and champagne, that night). It was very nice.

Not that I don't like to listen to heavier music, but if I do, I'll take a seat over gen admission any day. When Foo comes back to town, which is inevitable since their new CD releases on Tuesday, I know Wayne and I will so be there. Love The Foo.

Anyway, Shawn Mullins, alone on stage with just his mic and guitar, was fabulous. We'd never seen his show before, but we've been listening to him since, jeez, since we've been together (1996).

I'd like to go back to The Triple Door to see The Paperboys, who we saw at the concerts in the park this summer, and I'd like to go see The Burlesque Nutcracker in December. I think The Triple Door is my new favorite place to go for Date Night. Oh, and the food was great (we ordered the Phoenix and Dragon, which was a prawns and scallops dish...yum) as was the service.

Ummmm....what else is new?

I painted the family room and kitchen. I did a wall treatment, and I have to admit, it looks awesome. I am totally ready to paint the rest of the house, but I have no idea what color(s) to use. I'll upload pics later.

Wayne is waiting on pins and needles for his new toy. Yep. The iPod Touch. 16GB. He notified me yesterday that it is leaving China. We're hoping it will get here by Monday and no later than Tuesday.
Exciting stuff...and just in time for the new Foo Fighters CD. How perfect is that?

Finally, and most importantly, really, this past week my cousin came home, safe and sound, from Iraq. We had dinner with him and his family this past week at my mom and dad's, and it was just really good to see him. We're very happy that he's home.

FDoS

It was an exciting day today...
The First Day of School!!

Maya's in 1st grade.
Brittani is in 10th grade (starting her first year at the high school!)
Paige is in 11th grade (starting at a new high school!)

Wow.

I think it will be a good year for all the kids; I think they are all at the schools where they each will do best.

I didn't get any FDoS pics of Paige and Britt. I'll get their, "Phew! the end of the first day of school" pics.

against all odds

This morning I woke up a little early, but I wasn't quite ready to get out of bed. I decided to listen to this past week's episode of This American Life on my iPod. The episode is called Break-Up (ep #339). Download it free before Monday or you can listen free online. Starlee Kine wrote and recorded an awesome break-up song. You can listen to it online, and you should.

I loved her segment.

It was so perfect and I'm sure everyone can relate, on some level, to her piece in the show. It is particularly relevant to me right now.
